The salakot is a common symbol for Filipino identity.
Does this photo signify something to
you?
Maybe No.
Well, it is just an ordinary head
protection for farmers. Nothing special…
However, while we were in Cebu;
this simple thing caught my breath and pinched my heart soon as my eyes gazed
into it.
A reminisce of the past flashbacked;
when I was younger I used to wear my father's old salakot. “it will
help you prevent from heat exhaustion” that was my
father’s voice!
Reality is we have not enough money to
buy my size. To follow his order, usually I wrapped my head with his shirt to
fit it into his old salakot.
Yes, the photo above is just a simple
hat of a farmer, a protection against the extreme heat from the sun. For some
people it is nothing. For some it is something. For me, it was a bare way of my
father to make me feel loved and that he cared for me while he was still can.
